A Lustron 2 bedroom model

If you don't know anything about the Lustrons, you're missing out.  These adorable prefabs were only manufactured for the blink of an eye after WWII, but they have a charm all their own.
Yeah, I sure do covet one.
Today I have a Simmized version of the 2 bedroom model.  Unfortunately I can't find anything to approximate the signature zig zag column supporting the porch roof so for the moment, I've left the porch roof off.

Genuine enameled steel tile exterior!

Lustrons are sided with enameled steel tiles.  This siding has held up to the test of time so well that sixty years later, many of the surviving Lustrons have needed no new siding.
Lustrons were produced with a fairly limited palette that are recognizably "retro" to us, including yellow and blue as I've chosen here.
The little bay window.

Overview/floorplan.
Lustron kitchens were bit narrower than this, but Sims require a certain amount of space for functionality.  There was a spiffy pass through and built in hutch type cabinet between the dining and kitchen, and the kitchens had a very modern combination dish and clothes washer.  The little utility room housed the furnace.
One downside to the Lustrons was that the heating ducts were in the ceiling, and as you know, heat rises, so this wasn't the most efficient way to heat a home.

The utility room.
Mr Watson and his eldest play chess.  Jeffrey Watson stares.
I chose a more late forties palette for the interior than a midfifties palette.

The hallway.
There should be a closet in this spot, but there are no closets in the base game, so I've substituted a little study area.  If you are a modern Lustron owner, you could put your computer there.

The view into the dining area.
View into kitchen.

Mrs Watson demonstrates kitchen usage.
Pink, blue and yellow bath.
The children's room.  Crib is included in this room.
The master bedroom, sadly sans neat Lustron built ins.
Car is included.
I've tried to make all of these houses move-in ready, in part so you could place your non-playable Sims there and they could thrive, but also so your Sim family could be ready and well situated to do their Sim thing.  Most of the midcentury homes have some garden plants, most have an easel and a chess board as well.  This one does not have an easel.

So if you're ready to become the proud owner of a unique and rare midcentury phenomenon:

  1. This is too funny. While I was buying my Lustron in 2012, I built a model in Sims 3 so that I could see what it would look like with furniture in a couple different places. I didn't go to the trouble to make the outside look like a Lustron, but it was as close to the right shape and size as I could make it.
